A pawn shop is the first place I would look
You can get a used one from craigslist or something. It is a website. MY brother gets really good deals on there sometimes. If your lucky you can find one for free.

and if you run outta options, there are some good guitar center deals every weekend or so
have a look in your local music shop for ads.DO NOT buy a kit of eBay, i made that mistake, i paid for a 6 piece pearl and got a crappy session pro. have a look at http://www.drumshop.co.uk
Go on e-bay. You will find amazing drums at a cheap price. E-bay works on a bid principle. I but a lot of brand new box sets, for a dirt cheat bid.
Check it out. i saw a ludwig last week for under $400.
My sons got a Ludwig Drum Kit 2 years ago and we paid $399. There are good deals out there. We got ours from a local drum shop, and took it home the same day. We got to actually see and hear the drums & choose the color we wanted. My point is, why go on Ebay and pay for shipping & handling. Many drum shops also sell used kits that are brought in by customers on commission.
You may find a better drum set than you thought you could afford. Good Luck.
